The Significance of Fats, Carbs and Sugar for Nutrition and Weigh Loss

Things change rapidly in nutrition. We have been told that fats were the bad guys in the past, and then they said that carbs were to blame for all of the weight problems.

No one thing should be totally taken away from your diet. You need fats as well as carbohydrates to be healthy. The problems begin when people overeat these.

Fats
Now, we are told that fats are ok, as long as the right types of fats are eaten, and in moderate amounts.

Saturated and trans fats should be eaten only in moderation. They are often present in chips, cakes, and cookies, as well as many other processed foods. These can be eaten every once in a while, but not all of the time.

Fat has a special siginificance for weight loss. Take for instance the free diet plans that allow and encourage fats such as the Atkins diet plan. With Atkins meal plans the body starts to burn stored fat for weight loss. It is very effective but even the Atkins diet supports eating leaner fats and proteins.

Fats are good because they make energy for the body, and help your body to utilize important vitamins. Fat helps to regulate metabolism and other internal processes.

Although having some fat in your diet is necessary, too much fat can lead to heart disease, high cholesterol, and some forms of cancer. The Fat percentage of the daily diet calories should stay at 10-20%. Too much fat is unhealthy for the body.

Trans fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol are some of the bad fats to stay away from. Most and espcially those with health risks should avoid these. Obesity is said to be linked to high fat consumption.

By reading food labels you can make better food choices. This tells you all the nutritional facts. This will make for better meals and nutrition for the whole family.

Avoid processed foods, and high fat meats. Make sure that what you are eating will benefit your body, not hurt it.

Carbohydrates
The body must have carbs as well. They give the body energy, and are found in breads, cereals, fruits, vegetables, grains, milk, and other dairy products. There are two different types of carbs, the bad and good.

Carbs can be complicated. Whole grain bread overall is better for you than white and has better carbs.

Salts and sugard need to kept at a minimum. The major obesity problem in the country is due to too many fats and sugars in people's diets. Cancer, stroke and deart disease are also influenced by eating bad foods. When we can take the time to learn about the good and bad of different foods, we can do more to live a healthy lifestyle.
